It was fifteen years ago when we first opened our doors and began our HUB journey. The store looked a little different - we sold mostly home wares and vintage. It was far from the clean cut Scandi and British Streetwear boutique you see today. Although a lot has changed, the one constant is our loyal customers that have been here since day one and for that we are very grateful.
We have enjoyed years of building relationships with clients, staff, designers, manufactures and fellow local business owners. We have made friends, seen many children grow up and witnessed the borough change a lot. Hackney is such a vibrant place filled with creative energy, not to mention amazing parks, pools, cafes, bars, galleries and shops. Having an independent business in your local area really anchors you to the community.
Our staff are an integral part of HUB. We have a fantastic, talented team of people working here, some of which are longstanding members - the glue of HUB. Each person has their own element they bring to the business and we always aim to work with their individual strengths. They are paramount to the smooth running of the machine.
We have learned a lot over the years and it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. When we opened up the menswear store we soon realised how challenging it was for two women to curate a men’s boutique, luckily for us that’s when we met Shane, our menswear buyer and manager. In 2010 we opened a third store on Ada Street just off Broadway Market and our most recent venture is the launch of our online shop, which we are consistently nurturing and growing. It’s really exciting working with an entirely new platform, which didn’t exist fifteen years ago.
We also have our in-house label ALLSEA formally Beth Graham. It is partially manufactured in Woodgreen, North London and the knitwear comes from Scotland. We love having garments made and sourced in the UK; we can visit the factories, meet the makers and maintain a personal rapport, which is ultimately what HUB is all about.
